POST PARTUM
Women who have doula care have better postpartum outcomes. After birth, mothers cared for by doulas have less postpartum depression, healthier infant-mother interactions, and increased success with breastfeeding.
Researchers believe these results are due to the doula’s ability to make laboring women feel comfortable and nurtured. Women may be better prepared to take on the mothering role when their own needs for nurturing are met during the vulnerable period of labor. |
